We are excited to announce Franklin United’s first ever Women’s team launching in 2020!
The team will play in AFF Division 2 in a league position ceded by Drury UFC to Franklin Utd.
The nucleus of the team will be the players from the 2019 Drury Div 3 team who gained promotion to Div 2 this season, which included several of the Franklin U16 Girls. They will be joined by new players from within the region making this team is truly representative of Franklin/Counties.
We would like to thank coaches Adam Raututi (Drury W3) and Andrew Dempster (FUYA U16 Girls) for developing and strengthening both teams over the past few years. Their efforts have been instrumental in bringing the players to this point where they are ready to take their football to the next level and it is very much appreciated.
Franklin Utd has been considering a Women’s team since the FUYA Girls team was formed in 2018. The decision by both Andrew and Adam independently to step back this season, coupled with upcoming changes in the AFF competitions landscape, is the catalyst for us to move on our plans.
Uniting the Women’s and Girls team under Franklin Utd provides a clear pathway for our female players coming up through the Junior and Youth sections and we are strengthening their link with squad training and the opportunity for the Girls to have valuable playing time in Senior games. This is a fantastic development for Franklin Utd and we are thrilled our female pathway now mirrors the established male pathway.
A muster will be held for all interested players to meet the coaches, managers and club administrators who will answer any questions. The meeting will include a discussion of local team options.
