26-year-old Chris Abbott has returned to Franklin United after a spell at Tuakau Football Club. The former Tuakau Primary and College pupil has been impressing with his recent displays. His hard work was rewarded with a goal in the second playoff game against Te Atatu, a superb outside of the foot strike. Chris has played at a number of local clubs including Tuakau and Pukekohe.

Coach Mark Holt gave us his views on the signing of Abbott;

“It is great to have Chris at the Club. He is strong, so can hold the ball up and quick for a big lad so can get into dangerous areas behind defenders.

“He is determined to be a winner, willing to put his body on the line for the team and causes the opposition a lot of headaches trying to cope with his various attributes. Chris has a real eye for goal.

“He has come into the squad and is working hard along with the group to create something special at the club. I like that he comes with a smile on his face before training, and during training, he has a willingness to ask and take advice. He adds a lot of knowledge to our squad. I am excited about the positive effect he has had and can have with this group moving forward.”

Abbott said on signing for Franklin United, “This squad has a load of talented locals and a huge amount of ability. The staff created a professional environment, which has already been helping me as a player and a person.”

The avid Liverpool fan is looking forward to the season ahead saying, “I have a good feeling about this season for Franklin United. The team can achieve a lot of the goals in place, winning the playoff was the start of pushing the club to where it belongs.”
