Manager extraordinaire Barbara Lindsay continues in 2020, with her extremely popular personality to once again be greatly appreciated by both the players and staff.
A manager plays an integral part of any team and the hours that go into the role are huge and largely go unnoticed. Not only is Barbara kept busy making sure the organisation of game day is taken care of, with the kits being washed, opposition teams welcomed, changing room set up perfectly and then eventually all tidied up, team cards filled out, but also adding updates on Twitter with the odd photo for supporters who can’t attend the games. This whilst also supporting her son Marc who is a senior team player!
Prior to Franklin United, Barbara was a vital cog at Onehunga-Mangere United Football Club, as a long-time Committee member. For over 15 years, she was a driving force behind the clubs well known Digger Douglas tournament as Head Organiser. Barbara was also the Junior and Youth Convener and was in charge of all registrations of players from youth to senior level. This was all done whilst also being the Senior Team’s Manager, doing the jobs she does now and more. She has been honoured by the club as a life member.
Coach Mark Holt is very grateful to retain Barbara saying, “When having chats with Jim and then players they all spoke very highly of Barbara and her work, so to have her back for this year is great news. She has been at the Club for a few years now and knows what is required. On game day there is a lot happening for the players and coaches so for her to go about her role, making behind the scenes run smoothly takes a lot of pressure off us and it is a huge advantage.”
