Franklin United was established in 2016 with the vision to create a sustainable pathway to the top level for all football players, coaches and referees in the Franklin Community. To make this possible, Franklin United was created as a joint venture so that it could assist in building extensive partnerships between all Franklin community football clubs, whilst at the same time establishing a pathway for elite players within the area.
The Franklin region lies across Drury to Mercer (north to south), and Waiuku to Bombay (west to east) with Pukekohe sitting in the centre. It is estimated that there are two to three thousand people involved within football in our area, with more expected to settle in the area and become involved within the next five years.
We are challenging ourselves to change history and the past has shown us that the more talented youth players in our region have had to pursue their goals by joining an inner city club outside of the Franklin area. Without Franklin United, the opportunity for a pathway does not exist and this is putting extra pressure on local households and families, both socially and financially. Such local initiatives can reduce the environmental footprint of football.
To solve this and therefore keep this venture sustainable, Franklin United need to give our players the opportunity to develop their talent and see a pathway forward. The plan is to continually focus on resources available to the youth in the Franklin area. This is a two pronged attack. Firstly it is important to develop coaches and ensure they are getting the support and training needed to coach at the highest level. Secondly, Franklin United must have a strong combination of experienced senior players to provide mentoring and leadership in a game situation as the young players are being introduced in to senior football.
Pukekohe AFC is a long-standing football club in the Franklin community, operating since 1960, and enjoys a membership of nearly 900 active players, ranging from First Kicks and Fun Football to the more competitive and newly-formed Franklin United.
Our aim is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment that encourages all participants to reach their full footballing potential in all age groups. We run a competitive winter league where adults, youth and children are placed in teams to play, and in the 8 weeks prior to Christmas we also run a 5-a-side league, where anyone can enter a team with their friends and have fun.
Drury United Football Club
DUFC is a small club that is growing in size every year. Our goal was “to be the best little club in Auckland” but after substantial growth in the past 10 years and more on the horizon as the local population explodes, and the entry of DUFC as a Franklin Utd member and driving force in the establishment of FUYA (Franklin United Youth Academy), our new tagline is “to be them most progressive club in Auckland”!
We draw our member from the immediate Drury area and further afield, with players coming in from the surrounding suburbs of Papakura, Pukekohe, Ramarama, Karaka, Ararimu, Hunua, Patumahoe, Bombay, Pokeno, Tuakau, Clevenon, Clendon, Manurewa and Manukau.
We have a great club spirit and are supported generously by our local community with sponsorship, donations and support.
Tuakau Soccer Club
The Tuakau Soccer Club was established in 1974 and has been serving the wider local community ever since.
We are a small but fiercely loyal club that field at least one team in each age group, catering for any local who wants to put boots on in the weekend and play football with their mates!
We are primarily a community club with a focus on participation but we also have a proud tradition of competing at a high level in many grades.
We are looking forward to a partnership with Franklin United to help develop a talent pathway for our loyal players who want to commit to playing at the highest level they can, and we want to team up with other local clubs to have a louder voice in the various issues that smaller rural communities face.
